The Fee Paying Student Visa is for students paying international tuition fees themselves, or with help from family, a loan or a partial scholarship. You need an offer of place from an approved education provider, enough money for your tuition and living costs, and insurance acceptable to your provider.
The amount you must show for living costs is set by INZ and differs for tertiary and English language study, shorter courses, and school students in Years 1 to 13. Depending on your course, you may be able to work up to 25 hours a week during study and full-time in scheduled holidays.
Immigration New Zealand sets its application fees, levies and processing times and updates them regularly, so we don't quote them here. Check the current cost and decision time for your situation with INZ's Fees, decision times and where to apply tool, and see the full requirements on INZ's Fee Paying Student Visa page.
Choosing the right course matters for what comes next. Many degree-level and postgraduate qualifications lead to a Post-Study Work Visa, which can be a step towards residence. Concord helps you plan your study with your long-term goals in mind and prepares a complete application to avoid peak-season delays. New Zealand matters are handled by Sejoo Han, Licensed Immigration Adviser (IAA licence 202400274).
Who is it for?
This visa suits school, university, polytechnic and English language students who want to study in New Zealand. Children under 10 must have a parent or legal guardian with them unless they're living in an NZQA-approved hostel.
It's a great fit if you're thinking beyond graduation. Studying at the right level can open the Post-Study Work Visa, and your partner and children may be able to apply for visas based on your study. INZ recommends applying at least 3 months before you travel, as October to March is the busiest period.
